A great joy is bringing yoga to different communities and school groups in Australia and around the world.

Sony Foundation

I have been privileged to work with the Sony Foundation for many years. Teaching yoga to the children attending the Sony Camp holiday program each December.

These camps allow the parents time out and the special needs children an opportunity to meet new friends in a safe and nurturing environment. The children are exposed to a variety of different activities while being cared for by the volunteers from year 11 and 12.

These are such a highlight for me. I arrive at the start of the camp and introduce the children to yoga through fun and games. We blow bubbles to activate their lungs, we pass balls around in their hands and feet stimulating our finer motor skills and musical yoga statues are always a favourite and playing with the holla hoops. We end with a mind fullness 10 minutes of relaxation.

Ride 4 A Woman

I was totally honoured to teach these absolutely amazing ladies their first ever yoga class in Buhoma in Uganda. Ride 4 A Woman is a charitable organisation set up to support women struggling with poverty, HIV and domestic violence. Everlyn Habasa and her husband Denis Rubalema set up this charity in 2009. The lady’s learn to pedal sew, weave baskets, dance, sing and drum. Through their new skills they can make a living and make it possible for their children to go to school.

What Ride 4 A Woman are doing in Uganda has totally blown me away – not only by creating this safe environment but educating these lady’s in so many different ways. Even though the lady’s couldn’t speak English, Evelyn was there to translate. Oh, we laughed. It made us all feel so good and that’s what yoga is all about …. letting go and connecting. We are all connected on so many levels and this was one of those magical moments. The more love and kindness we have towards each other the world can only become a better place and can only lead us to peace. My 2nd visit was just as special as the 1st and I will be back ….

If anyone would like to donate new bras or nickers in very large sizes to these beautiful ladies, please send to: Mrs Everlyn Habasa, Ride 4 A Woman, PO Box 156 Kanungu, Uganda

Siyabulela Primary School

Teaching yoga to this beautiful group of children in the middle of Langa Township at Siyabulela Primary School in Cape Town, South Africa is such a joy.

I have been fortunate to teach here 3 times now and each time the children creep a little closer towards me during the class. I started teaching just the kindy class and now I teach any of the children who would like to join in a yoga class from the whole school.

There was no translation for the word ‘yoga’ so I called it stretching and body health. After my first visit the vice principal said “this is a day these children will never forget”. I was the first white woman to visit their school so it was important to me to make sure the whole experience was nurturing.
